Photographs…not the Def Leppard song, though, sorry

Ok, I know the song is actually Photograph, singular not plural with the s. Deal with it. That’s how I roll.

Anyway, I got a new phone that does coooool things like take pictures and keep me organized and let’s me play scrabble while driving down I-40 at 85 miles per hour. So look with your eyeholes and leave comments with your fleshy letter poking hand sticks

Southland Dinner is in the Books

Well we pulled it off. The dinner last night at Southland Books in Maryville, Tennessee was a success. It went smoother than our first attempt, we had a good crowd, and everyone seemed to leave happy, or at the very least the were nice enough to keep any whining to themselves. I started cooking my buns off around 9 in the morning, and finally hung it up around 10:30 with the occasional sanity saving game on Mario Kart on the Wii. I don’t know why, but nothing relaxes me more than playing Mario Kart and listening to the news on NPR which probably means I’m some kind of left wing, stimulation hound who can only block out the raging voices in his head by replacing them with computerized squawks and beeps and droning politicos waxing poetic in his ear. Or something like that. The only bad note is I woke up feeling a little puny, as they say around here, so I am going to head back to the bed and let the immune system do its thing, cause I have a long weekend ahead of me. I did manage to click a few pics this time, but most of them were blurry and awful but I picked out a couple that y’all might take a liking to.

Late Night Snack for the Pregnant

My lovely and brilliant wife, who is with child as they say, managed to work in three complaints and requests at the same time tonight in one short, direct sentence. She said ” I need to take my vitamins but I’m hungry and its cold.” The  nuances of the seemingly innocent statement are as subtle as a freshman year 3rd seat trumpet player. She needs to be fed both an allotment of food and a regiment of nutritive supplement for the growing Babyishungry (yeah for breast milk, but that is another story, on many levels really. OK , I’ve said too much. I haven’t said enough. That’s me in the corner, that’s me in the spotlight…oh, umm, anyway) Not only does she need these critical supplies, she is dependent upon me to prepare and fetch them for her. Also she is cold and apparently does not know how to “operate” a blanket and/or a quilt ( which is also another story on many levels, some of them quite off kilter really.)

Did I mention that she said this on the phone? And that I was driving around with Mikeiskindofhungryforalittleguy listening to college basketball on the radio? Apparently, this is a veeerrrry important variable in this particular equation. I was never that good at algebra or geometry, but thank god the guy next to me was. Soooooooooo, I made the following for the Missus

Peanut Butter and Honey Sushi with Chia Seeds and Strawberry Preserves, with a Side of Prenatal Vitamins

I rolled out the bread , put some good nut butter on it(hee, hee, i said nut butter), followed by some honey, some Chia seeds( yes THOSE kind of chia seeds..they are remarkable little things that fueled the Aztec warriors…curious? try google, ya lazy git), and some strawberry, all fruit preserves…then i rolled and sliced it and served it up on a bamboo platter with a garnish of folic acid and some other crazy pregnant vitamin things that probably make your burps taste funny. Look at the Pics!!! Love Them!!! Comment! Share! Send Cash, we’re(me, not the kids or missus)

low on Beer Money!!!

Peanut Butter Popcorn

haven’t blogged in a bit, sorry. Life happens at the worst times, it seems. This is a quick after school snack for the boys that I threw together. I simply popped up some popcorn in the dutch oven ( no more microwave popcorn!!!) then i tossed it in a peanut butter, butter and salt mixture which i melted in the micromowave. Pour over the popcorn and toss or stir to coat. I used natural unsweetened peanut butter but you could use any kind you wanted. I will add a touch of raw brown sugar next time to make up for the unsweetened peanut butter. It would be nice with a little cayenne over the top, but this was for the Hungryboys who have not yet developed their spicy genes.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies…ummm I mean brownies

I’m not normally much of a baker but i found a great recipe for Double Peanut Chocolate Chip Cookies on the back of a bag of peanut butter chips, A.K.A. super delicioso rabbit turds from heaven…So, I assembled my ingredients like a good little baker and went about following the carefully laid out directions, something i Rarely do…somewhere around this point in time however, my absentminded self starting following directions for some Peanut Butter and Chocolate chip Brownies on the OTHER bag of Milk Chocolate chips, A.K.A. crazy awesome chunks of mana from the lord’s beard after a long day at the yummy mines…Soooooooo, i wound up making brownies by mistake and didn’t figure it out until it came time to spread the batter in the brownie tray, which it mentioned in step one…this is why i am not much of a baker…to be honest, these sucked…not sure when i switched recipes, but they came out of the pan like supersweet roofing tiles or hockey pucks covered in way too many chips…do not make this dish…good pictures though
